Enterprise Kids Academy's Friday class focuses on Van Gogh, sunflower art

Marcia Bauerle, an award-winning mixed-media collage artist and certified art teacher from Imperial, will teach the Enterprise Kids Academy’s class this Friday, Nov. 14, 1-4 p.m. at McCook Community College’s McMillen Hall, Room 213.
Students will explore the structure of a sunflower, including a brief understanding of Fermat’s spiral, Fibonacci numbers and inflorescence.
They also will learn more about Vincent Van Gogh, including the rich artistic climate of France in the late 19th century, historical significance of the invention of paint tubes, Van Gogh's famous paintings, and ultimately, his sunflower series. They will view sunflower art by other artists as well.
Participants in this class, which is geared for kindergarten through sixth graders, will produce their own 2-D piece of sunflower art using their choice of medium. Possibilities, dependent on skill level, interest, and desire, include crayon, colored pencil, oil pastel, watercolor, acrylic or paper collage. Parent participation is encouraged.

Enterprise Kids Academy is MCC’s Center for Enterprise’s new endeavor to support our youth and their families with quality learning opportunities. With enough financial support and participation from the community, Area Account Manager Lena Koebel said the Center for Enterprise will host one class per month indefinitely.
“I am thrilled we can bring incredible learning opportunities to McCook that kids otherwise wouldn’t be able to experience in their hometown,” she said.
Look for more information on the Center’s December offering on the Center for Enterprise’s website and on this blog. This class will be on the history of Christmas trees. Students will decorate their own tree to take home.
For more information on Enterprise Kids Academy, or to suggest future classes, please contact Koebel at 308-345-8124.
