Local tutor
Kristin Heimer is a local tutor and will have some tutoring openings for local students this winter, and thought there might be some homeschoolers who would be interested in a little extra help of that sort for their kids.
All her information can be found at her website: http://mccooktutor.weebly.com/ Kristin said even though her listed hours are after school, for homeschoolers anytime after 10 a.m. weekdays could easily be worked out. She has an associate's degree in Bible.
Why homeschoolers love to homeschool
Hi everyone!
I found this blog and had to share the URL. If you are like me and sometimes feel frustrated or burnt out by homeschooling, maybe one or two or 50 of these reasons others love to homeschool will remind you why you're doing it. It was refreshing to me.

Enterprise Kids Academy's Friday class focuses on Van Gogh, sunflower art
Marcia
Bauerle, an award-winning mixed-media collage artist and certified art teacher
from Imperial, will teach the Enterprise Kids Academy’s class this Friday, Nov.
14, 1-4 p.m. at McCook Community College’s McMillen Hall, Room 213.
Students
will explore the structure of a sunflower, including a brief understanding of Fermat’s
spiral, Fibonacci numbers and inflorescence.
They
also will learn more about Vincent Van Gogh, including the rich artistic
climate of France in the late 19th century, historical significance of the
invention of paint tubes, Van Gogh's famous paintings, and ultimately, his
sunflower series. They will view sunflower art by other artists as well.
Participants
in this class, which is geared for kindergarten through sixth graders, will
produce their own 2-D piece of sunflower art using their choice of
medium. Possibilities, dependent on skill level, interest, and desire,
include crayon, colored pencil, oil pastel, watercolor, acrylic or paper
collage. Parent participation is encouraged.

and their families with quality learning opportunities. With enough financial support and
participation from the community, Area Account Manager Lena Koebel said the
Center for Enterprise will host one class per month indefinitely.
“I
am thrilled we can bring incredible learning opportunities to McCook that kids
otherwise wouldn’t be able to experience in their hometown,” she said.
Look
for more information on the Center’s December offering on the Center for
Enterprise’s website and on this blog. This class will
be on the history of Christmas trees. Students will decorate their own tree to
take home.

How about those Learning Labs?!?
So, November is just around the corner....EeeeeK! Where has the time gone? With the end of the year quickly approaching it is time to sort of re-evaluate the Learning Labs. Where should we go from here? We are so curious to hear your thoughts....
Do you like them?
How can we increase involvement?
Should we continue on in the Spring? Say January - April
If so are you willing to teach... We need your help ;)
Is once a month working?
Is Friday still working for those interested?
Please share your ideas... :)
If you'd prefer not to comment below, feel free to email us at mccookhomeschool@gmail.com

I promise this is the last post on Fun with Food!
The Center is continuing both "Fun with Food" classes. It would be nice if people could register by today (Thursday) so the instructor has enough materials for all the kids, but no one will be turned away if they show up tomorrow.
Also, for the younger class (k-2), preschool aged kids are welcomed and encouraged to enroll. We have a few 3-year-olds who have enrolled.
You can enroll by calling the Center for Enterprise at 308.345.8122, or do so online at www.centerforenterprise.com.
Questions/concerns can be directed to me at 308.737.5776.

Sign up by today (Oct. 22) for Enterprise Kids Academy: Fun with Food
Due to very low registration for the Enterprise Kids Academy: Fun with Food class (only two have signed up — one in each class), the Center for Enterprise needs to have everyone signed up by today, Wednesday, Oct. 22. If significantly more students aren't signed up, the Center is canceling this class.
We have lots more amazing educational opportunities in store for the coming months. If you want to see these classes continue each month, we need participation.
Let me know if you have any questions!
